About the person: Omar Alshogre is a Syrian refugee, public speaker, and prominent human rights activist, currently serving as the Director for Detainee Affairs at the Syrian Emergency Task Force. He is internationally recognized for his powerful advocacy work, drawing on his own harrowing experiences of imprisonment, torture, and starvation under the Assad regime, where he was detained for three years. Originally from al-Bayda, Syria, and born in 1995, Alshogre now resides in Sweden. As one of the few survivors of Assad’s notorious prison system prior to its dissolution in 2024, he has taken on a vital role in raising global awareness of human rights violations in Syria. He plays an active part in legal efforts to hold perpetrators accountable, serving as a key witness in international prosecutions for crimes committed during the Syrian conflict.
