Living systems are molecular, autopoietic systems. They therefore exist in molecular dynamics. Organisms are living units in the flow of their interactions and in the medium they perceive as their environment. Due to their way of life, they transcend their molecularity. The human way of life is built upon language, in a form that both enables reflection and conscious awareness of one’s own way of life. As linguistic beings, we create (speak) the world in which we live in so far as we can do everything we can imagine within the structural contexts of this domain. Love is the feeling from which we humans choose responsibility and freedom in our actions. By living our decisions, we introduce ethics as an all-encompassing dimension. In his lecture, Humberto Maturana discusses the importance of language in human life, language as the creator of a (new) world, and ethics that arises from our actions.
